New minister George asks Jaranwala residents to stay peaceful

Says probe into the attacks on churches underway and no one will be allowed to destroy peace of the land.

JARANWALA: Caretaker Minister for Human Rights Khalil George has urged the people of Jaranwala to remain peaceful in the wake of attacks on churches a day earlier.

Talking to media in Jaranwala on Friday, he expressed concern over incidents of burning of churches and houses. He said that as per Pakistani constitution and law, freedom of speech is right of everyone irrespective of religion or belief.

He said that a detailed probe into the matter is underway and no one will be allowed to destroy the peace of the land. The Federal Minister said violating the sanctity of the holy places in unacceptable. He asked the Faisalabad district administration to provide security to Christian community and their worship places.

Multiple churches in a Christian neighbourhood of Jaranwala tehsil of Faisalabad were attacked on Wednesday by an enraged mob over an act of alleged desecration of the Holy Quran.
