Pakistani presenter Zainab Abbas bows out of India

KARACHI: Cricket presenter for Sky News from Pakistan, Zainab Abbas, was reportedly forced to leave India following reports of an application filed with police by a lawyer seeking a criminal case against her for writing what the complainant alleged anti-Hinduism posts on social media back in 2014.

However, a spokesperson for the International Cricket Council (ICC) claimed that the presenter had left India due to “personal reasons” and was not deported by India.

Abbas was one of the presenters for this year’s World Cup. The presenter was really excited about the opportunity to travel to India when the announcement was made.

On X, she had said she was humbled by the idea of joining the star-studded line-up of commentators and presenters for the mega event.

India did not grant visas to Pakistani fans and journalists despite reminders by the Pakistan Cricket Board for the World Cup Cricket Tournament.
