Ambassador sees bright prospects ahead for Pak-US ties

Masood Khan says Pakistan’s IT, energy, agriculture, mining and defense production sectors in Pakistan are ripe for investment.

WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Masood Khan has said the two countries have enjoyed strategic and economic relationship over the last over six decades that continues to grow and there are brighter prospects for its further growth in the future.

The two sides are also enhancing the space for economic partnership encompassing trade, investment, energy, climate change, healthcare, education, agriculture, technology and people-to-people exchanges.

He stated this while addressing ‘OPEN Chicago’, an association dedicated to the promotion of entrepreneurship and professional excellence within diaspora communities.

The ambassador said Pakistan’s five areas were ripe for investment – IT, energy, agriculture, mining and defense production. He said Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) has been established by the government of Pakistan which would be working as a ‘single-window’ platform to facilitate investors.

He added that SIFC will shorten lengthy business processes, develop a whole of the government approach and tap Pakistan’s potential in key sectors of information technology, energy, mining, agriculture and defense production.

“This is an ideal time to invest in Pakistan and to promote the country’s products and services in the United States.”

“In 2018, the venture capital funding for Pakistani startups was merely $10 million a year. Today it should be more than $1 billion a year. Our IT exports are $3 billion, he said. The ambassador said investment opportunities in various sectors of the economy were bright and Pakistan had ensured facilities for investors.
