JCP recommends elevation of Justice Irfan to Supreme Court
Justice Irfan Saadat Khan is currently the acting chief justice of Sindh High Court.
ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) on Friday recommended the elevation of Justice Irfan Saadat Khan of Sindh High Court to the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
The Judicial Commission of Pakistan held its meeting with Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa in the chair and unanimously recommended the name of Justice Irfan. The name will now be sent to a parliamentary committee for final approval.
Justice Irfan Saadat Khan is currently the acting chief justice of Sindh High Court. The existing strength of the Supreme Court is 15 judges against the sanctioned strength of 17 judges and with the addition of Justice Irfan there would be 16 judges.
According to Article 177(2) of the Constitution, a nominee to be elevated as the judge of the Supreme Court should have been a judge of the high court for a period not less than five years or has an experience of not less than 15 years as advocate of the high court.
