Govt given till Feb 13 to recover missing Baloch students

IHC in its order says govt has assured it that in future no citizen would be made missing.

ISLAMABAD: The high court of Islamabad has given the federal government till February 13 to recover all the missing Baloch students and file a report. 

In its written order released today, Justice Muhsin Akhtar Kayani of Islamabad High Court said that in case the students were not recovered within the deadline, legal action would ve initiated against the officers concerned of intelligence agencies.

The government has assured the court that the remaining 12 missing students would be recovered by Feb 13 and that no citizen would be picked and made missing.

Anyone facing charges would be proceeded against in accordance with the law. The court said such action and assurances were a guarantee for the rule of law and guarantee for protection of human rights.

The court fave the example of Sami Din Baloch who told the judge that his father had been missing for decades. As a test case, his case is being sent to the attorney general, the court order added.

It may be mentioned here that initially the number of missing Baloch students was 52 and later the government informed the court that 28 of the missing students had been recovered. Now the number is 12 and the government has said efforts were ongoing to recover them too.

On the other hand, over 100 of people from Balochistan have staged a sit-in outside the National Press Club demanding the recovery of their near and dear ines missing for years.

For years, thousands of people have gone missing, mostly from Balochistan, and their relatives have accused security agencies of picking them up in suspicions of their links with separatist elements in the province.
