Imran sentenced in yet another case

Former prime minister and wife to remain in jail in seven years each for contracting their marriage violating Islamic rules.

RAWALPINDI: Former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi were sentenced to seven years in jail each in the illegal marriage case here on Saturday. 

The verdict was announced by judge Qudrat Ullah in the central jail of Adiala Rawalpindi where the former prime minister is languishing in another case. 

The case was initiated against the couple by former husband in of Bushra Bibi in July last year. According to the case, Bushra Bibi married Imran Khan before the completion of the specific period in accordance with Islamic junctions.

Earlier, Imran Khan had been convicted and sentenced in cipher case and Toshakhana case.

In Toshakhana case, Bushra Bibi was also sentenced to 14 years’ imprisonment and arrested. She has been shifted to Imran’s Banigala house that has been declared as a sub-jail.

The petitioner claimed that Bushra Bibi was divorced by her former husband in November 2017 and married Khan on January 1, 2018, despite the fact that her iddat period had not ended, “which is against the Sharia and Muslim norms.”
