ISLAMABAD: A delegation from Barrick Gold led by its Chief Executive Officer Mark Bristow met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad on Friday.
In a briefing on Reko Diq project, the delegation said its feasibility would be completed by the end of this year. Local and Balochistan domicile holders are being given priority in jobs on Reko Diq project.
They said Barrick Gold, under the corporate social responsibility, had established three schools near Reko Diq. So far, 100 people, including women, have been imparted vocational and technical training by Barrick Gold.
Speaking to the delegation, Mr Sharif said communication infrastructure, especially railway lines, would be established in the area to take full advantage of the mineral potential of Balochistan.
He asked Barrick Gold to invest in other projects of minerals in the province. A joint venture between the government and Barrick Gold will also be welcomed for the establishment of a technical university in Chaghai, he added.
