ATC grants bail to 20 accused in May 9 cases

Police produce over 500 accused in the terror cases in court where their attendance was marked.

RAWALPINDI: An anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi granted bail to 20 PTI leaders in cases registered against them for vandalism on May 9, 2023.

The police produced over 500 accused who had been booked in the terror cases and after marking their attendance took them back to the Adiala jail. Some of them were however already granted bail.

The 20 accused granted bail today included Shibli Faraz, Raja Basharat, Zartaj Gul and Zain Qureshi. Moreover, Khyber Pakthunkhwa chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur was exempted from.personal appearance in the court. 

Later, the court adjourned hearing of the cases till May 29. 

It may be recalled that soon after the arrest of former prime minister Imran Khan on May 9, 2023, in Islamabad by NAB in connection with a corruption case, workers of his PTI party went on a rampage and set military installations ablaze.

The PTI workers in Lahore took out a protest and entered the corps commander house also called Jinnah House and set it ablaze snd ransacked it.

Over 100 people involved in the arson attacks on military installations including the GHQ in Rawalpindi were arrested in different cities.
