Shehbaz orders end to unannounced loadshedding
Says masses should be provided immediate relief in scorching heat by ensuring power supply.
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif here on Tuesday ordered the authorities concerned to immediately end unannounced loadshedding across the country to provide relief to the masses in the scorching heat.
He was chairing a meeting held to discuss load management and pilferage of electricity in Islamabad. Officials concerned brief the prime minister and said that loadshedding was being carried out in areas where feeders were running in losses due to pilferage of electricity. On this the prime minister said that it was the responsibility of the authorities concerned to stop pilferage and ensure power supply to masses. He said the masses that were paying their bills should not be punished for a wrong done by power theft by unscrupulous elements who were stealing electricity.
The prime minister said that the drive against power pilferers should continue and reach its logical conclusion and all those found involved in the illegal activity should be brought to justice. H3e said he would monitor the progress on the crackdown of power pilferers every month.
The prime minister appreciated the move when told that authorities concerned held a meeting with the chief minister of KP who assured that action would be taken against power theft in the province.
