Exports up by 29pc, inflation down to single digit: minister

Says positive indicators are results of visionary approach of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Aurangzeb Khan on Sunday said decisions and steps taken by the government had started showing positive results.

Addressing a press conference here, he claimed that there had been a 29pc increase in exports this year, adding inflation had come down from 38pc to the single digit and would further decrease in months to come. All these positive indicators and developments are thanks to the personal interest and visionary approach of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as well as some steps taken by the caretaker government.

The minister said that the steps taken by the government had also led to an increase in investors’ confidence.

“The confidence of investors gives clearance to macroeconomic stability that is coming through,” he remarked. The minister also said that the government was going to take more steps to decrease its expenditures including reducing the size of federal government.

He said the decision about abolition or merger of six ministries had already been taken and was at implementation stage, adding the government would need to amend Civil Servant Act 1973 for this.

The minister said that Pakistan went to the IMF for ensuring macroeconomic stability and starting reforms under homegrown economic agenda.
