Reception held in honor of Firdous Ashiq Awan in US

NEW YORK: A reception was organized in honor of former federal minister Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan at Brooklyn New York. Ms Awan is currently on a visit to the United States of America.

Members of the Pakistani-American community, social circles and media representatives, including women, welcomed the former minister and presented her with bouquets.

The reception was arranged by journalists’ international organization, Fourth Pillar,Pakistan House and Small Business Minority Organization. The event was attended by prominent community leaders, social and political figures as well as media representatives.

Addressing the event, Dr Firdous said that Pakistanis living abroad, especially in the US, were ambassadors of their country. She said that politics in Pakistan was in crises, adding the role of the state should also be given importance.

Speaking on the occasion, Farooq Mirza said Brooklyn was mini-Pakistan and its Pakistani community always worked to promote the image of Pakistan in the USA. It is also the center of Pakistani culture and civilization. He also introduced members of the organization.

Prominent journalist Raja Ibrahim said that Dr Firdous while in power always worked for the welfare of the journalist community in Pakistan. 

Overseas Foundation’s cheif Zaheer Meher, special assistant to the mayor of New York Atia Shehnaz, Pakistan House President Ali Zai and Deputy Consul General Muhammad Umar also spoke on the occasion.
