Two cities receive rain from local cloud seeding technology

LAHORE: Amid the smog crisis and dry weather, the Punjab government on Friday used a local technology for cloud seeding that resulted in rain in the cities of Jhelum and Gujar Khan and nearby areas.

Experts working with the cloud seeding team expressed the hope that it would also be conducted in Lahore to bring down the effect of smog that has paralyzed life there for many weeks.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department Punjab chapter confirmed that Jhelum, Gujar Khan, Chakwal and Talagang received rain from cloud seeding activity on Friday.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz congratulated the team working on cloud seeding activity form indigenous technology and said that Punjab had made history by leading other provinces in technological advancements within Pakistan.

Experts working with the team said that cloud seeding was carried out at about 2pm on Friday and rainfall was reported within hours in Jhelum and Gujar Khan.

Meanwhile, as the smog continued enveloping major cities in Punjab, the government extended the vacations of schools till November 24. The government of Punjab in a notification said that classes should be conducted online till the situation becomes normalized. The provincial government has also taken emergency measures to cope with the situation.
