Pakistan’s approval awaited for launch of Starlink service: Musk

ISLAMABAD: The launch of Starlink service has long been awaited in Pakistan as it ensures uninterrupted and fast satellite internet service in inaccessible and remote areas as well as in regions where the internet service is low.

The chief executive officer of Tesla and SpaceX Elon Musk has stated that his company was waiting for the approval of the government of Pakistan to launch Starlink in the South Asian country. The statement has been received with appreciation by Pakistani social media users.

Last month, minister of state for information technology Shiza Fatima told a parliamentary committee meeting in Islamabad that talks were underway with Starlink to launch its service in Pakistan.

She stated this while briefing the National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology at Parliament House. 

Three years ago a delegation from Starlink had visited Pakistan and held discussions with authorities concerned about launching of Starlink service in the country.

According to a report, a present there are 6764 statellites of Starlink orbiting around the earth. Of these, 6714 statellites are providing fast and reliable internet service in remote arras of the world.

The launch of Starlink service in Pakistan would usher in a new era of communication especially in the rural areas.
