Advisory issued against theft of cryptocurrency wallet data
ISLAMABAD: As hackers have become active to steal cryptocurrency wallet data through malware viruses, the Pakistan Cyber Emergency Response Team has issued an advisory aimed at protection for users.
It said the malware virus could spread under the guise of PDF files. The virus is spread out using images of fake bot detection systems, and the information and data stolen from the virus can be sold on hacking forums.
The advisory said that a widespread phishing campaign had been identified from the bot detection system, adding that clicking on the images leads users to phishing websites.
The Cyber Emergency Response Team’s advisory stated that training should be given to identify harmful PDFs and monitoring of fake websites, and fraudulent domains should be reported.
The advisory recommended keeping all systems updated to prevent attacks and said that a multi-factor authentication system should be adopted and cyber security defences should be strengthened.
