JEDDAH: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has rejected US President Donald Trump’s plan to evict Palestinians from Gaza and backed the reconstruction of Gaza under the Arab plan.
A meeting of the foreign ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) was held in Jeddah on Friday in which Pakistan was represented by Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar.
At the meeting, the member states supported the reconstruction of Gaza under the Arab Plan.
The head of the OIC, Hussein Ibrahim Taha, said he supports the Arab League’s plan to rebuild Gaza, rejecting statements such as the forced displacement of the Palestinian people.
Speaking at the meeting of foreign ministers, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said that Israel should stop atrocities on Palestinians, adding Pakistan stands with Palestinian brothers.
It may be noted that Arab countries recently held an extraordinary meeting in Cairo, in which Egypt rejected Trump’s proposal and announced a plan for the reconstruction of Gaza that would respect the rights of the Palestinians and keep them on their land.
What’s the Arab Plan?
Egypt’s proposed $53 billion five-year plan for Gaza includes the construction of millions of homes, a commercial port and an airport. Elections in the Palestinian territories and efforts for a two-state solution are also part of the plan.
At the end of the meeting, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, secretary general of the Arab League, announced that Egypt’s plan had now become an Arab project.
US President Donald Trump had proposed a plan to evacuate Palestinians from Gaza and send them to other countries, after which the ‘Riviera’ would be built along the coast of Gaza.
