No security personnel abducted, 18 martyred in train attack: ISPR

Director general says security forces recovered 354 hostages, 37 of them injured, not a single hostage was killed during operation.

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Army spokesman Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has said that out of the 26 people martyred by terrorists in the Jaffar Express, 18 were from the army and FC.
He briefed media about the attack on Jaffar Express and the operation to rescue the passengers. He said that a total of 33 terrorists were killed in the operation by security forces while the terrorists martyred 26 people. The forces recovered 354 hostages, 37 of them were injured, not a single hostage was killed during the operation of the forces.
The ISPR chief said that out of the 26 martyred, 18 belonged to the army and FC and the terrorists did not kidnap any passenger or army personnel.
He said that the hostage passengers were in the same area, and in three large parts. One group was set free by the terrorists on the night of March 11, the second was rescued by the army and the FC on the morning of March 12. Some also got a chance to escape. The third group was rescued in the evening of March 12 in the co-clearance operation.
According to the DG ISPR, when the terrorists pulled out the passengers from the train, they left a small group of terrorists there and most of the terrorists escaped from the spot.
