Prices of 27 Essential Items Rise in One Week

ISLAMABAD: Prices of 27 essential commodities increased during the past week, while six items became cheaper and prices of 18 remained unchanged, according to the latest weekly inflation report issued by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

The report showed that weekly inflation declined by 0.91%, while the year-on-year inflation rate stood at 9.05%.

Among the major increases, diesel prices rose 4.17% and petrol 2.46%. Onion prices climbed 7.62%, while eggs became 3.16% more expensive. Prices of ghee, flour, pulses and LPG also increased during the week.

On the other hand, tomato prices fell 22.96% and chicken became 11.20% cheaper. Sugar prices also declined, while electricity charges for the first quarter recorded a decrease.

Despite the weekly decline in overall inflation, the rise in fuel and several essential food prices continues to put pressure on household budgets.
