WASHINGTON: U.S. President Donald Trump has said the war with Iran is nearing an end and predicted that global oil prices will fall even further, while claiming that significant progress is being made in ongoing negotiations.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said he was personally involved in the negotiations and that the process was progressing very well. He also claimed that Iran would not be able to withstand U.S. pressure for much longer.
Trump acknowledged that the war had affected U.S. weapons stocks, saying that military supplies and weapons reserves had been impacted by the conflict.
Meanwhile, the United States has imposed new sanctions on Iran. According to the U.S. State Department, sanctions have been placed on six Iranian entities and one individual.
The sanctioned entities include two major digital-asset exchanges that Washington says were being used by the Iranian government to maintain international financial connections.
Trump’s comments come amid continuing uncertainty over the duration of the Iran war and its impact on global energy markets. Any progress toward an end to the conflict could ease pressure on crude oil prices, particularly if concerns over disruptions to regional energy supplies diminish.
