A Tribute to the Man Who Shaped My Soul
By Fawad Hassan
On 28 December 2024, a man of unparalleled integrity and grace, Justice Ijazul Hassan, ascended to heaven. To me, he was not just a father; he was my guiding star, my unwavering pillar of strength, and the moral compass that shaped my life. Abu was the embodiment of love, honesty, and resilience—a man whose legacy transcends time, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the honor of knowing him.
Abu’s life was a masterclass in integrity, lived with purpose and unwavering faith. As a father, he led by example, teaching me the most profound lessons not through words but through the silent strength of his actions. Whenever I falter or face challenges, it is his enduring presence—gentle yet firm—that reminds me of who I am and the values he instilled in me. His character was my fortress, shielding me from the temptations of life and guiding me toward righteousness. In every decision I make, I hear his unspoken words, pushing me to uphold the honor of his name.
Abu’s simplicity was his brilliance. He was a man of humble beginnings, yet his strength of character made him extraordinary. When he joined the judicial service in 1974 with a salary of just PKR 300 per month, he gave every rupee to my mother with unwavering trust and respect, knowing she would nurture our home with love and care. Together, they built a sanctuary filled with warmth, laughter, and mutual devotion—a home where values were lived, not just taught.
The love Abu shared with my mother was nothing short of legendary. For 50 years, their bond was a testament to the power of love and respect. He would call her every night at 9 pm during official tours, a small act that carried the weight of a lifetime of devotion. I’ve witnessed their silent tears during partings, their uncontainable joy upon reunions, and their boundless empathy for each other in every moment. Their love was not a fairy tale—it was a living example of what it means to truly cherish another human being. Abu’s affection for my mother was a love story unmatched, a legacy of devotion that will forever inspire me.
As a judge, Abu’s integrity was his hallmark. He viewed his role as a sacred trust, delivering justice with fairness, compassion, and an unyielding commitment to the truth. He never allowed personal interests or external pressures to sway his decisions, standing resolute even in the face of challenges. His dedication to justice was not just a duty; it was his life’s calling—a means to serve society and uphold the principles he held dear.
But Abu’s greatness extended far beyond the courtroom. His humility, empathy, and generosity touched countless lives. Quietly and without fanfare, he supported those in need, embodying the spirit of giving that inspires me to this day. His life was a reflection of selflessness, showing me that even small acts of kindness can create profound ripples of change.
In my professional journey, Abu’s legacy of honesty and integrity has been my shield. Whenever doubt or temptation arises, I think of him—his steadfast commitment to doing what is right, regardless of the cost. His principles are so deeply rooted in me that they guide me even in his absence, shaping every decision and action I take. His influence is a constant reminder that character is the true measure of greatness.
Beyond his public and familial roles, Abu was an extraordinary human being. He lived a life of simplicity, finding joy in his faith, his family, and his duty. He avoided the trappings of materialism, focusing instead on the values that truly matter. His meals were modest, his attire unassuming, but his soul was grand. His humility, grace, and unwavering principles left an indelible mark on all who crossed his path.
Abu’s love for his family knew no bounds. He was not just a provider but a nurturer, a mentor, and a friend. He taught me that true strength lies in compassion, that true greatness is found in service to others, and that the measure of a life well-lived is the love and respect one earns. His life was a reflection of these ideals—a shining example of what it means to live with purpose, honor, and love.
His passing has left a void that words cannot fill, but his legacy is eternal. It lives on in the values he instilled in me, in the countless lives he touched, and in the lessons he imparted through his extraordinary life. Abu’s story is not one of material achievements or worldly accolades; it is a story of character, love, and unwavering faith. It is a story that will continue to inspire me and those who knew him for generations to come.
May Allah grant my beloved father the highest ranks in Jannah and a place of eternal peace. Abu, you are forever in my heart, my guiding light, and my greatest source of pride. I am eternally grateful to have been your son, and I pray to live a life that honors your memory and keeps your legacy alive.
Forever in my heart.
