KARACHI: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi has condemned the ongoing violations of the Constitution and law in Pakistan.
He stated that national assets are being sold, justice has become a commodity, and court orders are being openly disregarded. “The nation’s most popular leader remains in jail, and the Constitution is being trampled,” he said, emphasizing that Pakistan cannot progress as a constitutional state unless the judiciary is independent and the legal community stands united.
CM Afridi made these remarks while addressing the Sindh High Court Bar Association during his visit to Sindh. His visit included paying tribute to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah at his mausoleum, where he laid a floral wreath and reaffirmed the guiding principles of the Founder of Pakistan to restore the country to its constitutional path.
Later, at the Sindh High Court, CM Afridi criticized the Sindh government’s treatment of guests and the disregard for Sindhi cultural symbols like the Ajrak and Sindhi cap. He further condemned the violation of the Constitution and the deliberate weakening of state institutions, which he argued is harming the nation. He pointed to the sale of national institutions like Pakistan International Airlines and the commodification of justice. “Justice should never be for sale,” he stressed.
CM Afridi also shared an incident where a jail superintendent ignored a court order granting him permission to meet Imran Khan, which he described as a blatant disrespect for the judiciary. He reiterated that when constitutional and legal avenues are blocked, protests become the only option.
On the economic crisis, CM Afridi expressed concern over the rising poverty and unemployment in the country, blaming the ruling class for focusing on personal gain instead of addressing the people’s issues. He supported Imran Khan’s call for a street movement, urging lawyers to unite for the restoration of the Constitution and rule of law.
In response, PTI Secretary General Barrister Salman Akram Raja and leaders of the Sindh High Court Bar Association and Karachi Bar Association pledged their support for the movement.
After the event, CM Afridi visited PTI Karachi leaders and met activists who had faced political imprisonment. He also met religious scholars at the central office of Majlis Wahdatul Muslimeen and addressed PTI workers at Dr. Saeed Afridi’s residence.
