PESHAWAR: A jirga was held at the Chief Minister House Peshawar where Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Afridi chaired a meeting with elders and notables from District Khyber.
The primary focus of the meeting was the ongoing law and order situation in the region and the plight of families displaced from Tirah Valley.
Addressing the jirga, Chief Minister Afridi reaffirmed the provincial government’s unwavering support for the displaced families, emphasizing that the sacrifices of the tribal people could never be ignored.
“These people have guarded the country’s borders for decades without any compensation, and the state must fulfill its promises to them,” he stated. Afridi also expressed concern about an organized mindset that undermines the integration of Pashtuns, particularly the tribal population, into the mainstream of society.
Afridi rejected military operations as a solution, pointing out that after numerous failed attempts, peace had not been achieved. He stressed the importance of consultation and consensus-building between the provincial and federal governments, emphasizing that decisions made without local input would not yield positive results.
The Chief Minister also criticized the ongoing negative propaganda against him since his election, describing it as an attempt to undermine his leadership due to his tribal background. He condemned the forced displacement of the people of Tirah and stated that these actions were part of a broader effort to target him politically. Despite these challenges, Afridi reiterated his commitment to standing by his people, insisting that the provincial government would not become a part of any failed policies.
Afridi further promised that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government would prioritize the welfare of the displaced families, ensuring they receive all necessary support and resources for their dignified resettlement. He concluded by saying, “We will confront violence with awareness and education.”
