ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal claimed that an agreement has been reached in principle with the Awami Action Committee of Azad Kashmir. The final signing of the agreement is expected to take place soon.

Speaking on a private television program, Ahsan Iqbal said that both sides are carefully reviewing the draft agreement. He expressed confidence that the deal will be signed shortly, calling it a “significant victory for Pakistan, the people of Azad Kashmir and democracy.”

Ahsan Iqbal also revealed the formation of a permanent committee, overseen by the Minister for Kashmir Affairs, which will convene every 15 days to monitor the implementation of the agreement’s provisions.

Regarding the contentious issue of refugee seats, Iqbal stated that a committee of constitutional experts will be established to examine the matter in detail. “This is a constitutional issue that requires careful deliberation. The committee’s findings will be final and accepted by all parties,” he emphasized, cautioning against rushing the decision.

Earlier, Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry reiterated the government’s full support for the rights of the Kashmiri people. He noted that most demands, especially those in the public interest, have already been approved.

Chaudhry added that discussions are ongoing concerning the remaining demands, which require constitutional amendments. “We firmly believe that violence is not the answer and that peaceful dialogue is the only way forward,” he said.

He expressed hope that the Awami Action Committee would resolve all outstanding issues through constructive and peaceful negotiations. “Long live Azad Kashmir, long live Pakistan,” he concluded.
