BUSAN (SOUTH KOREA): U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping held an important meeting in Busan, South Korea — their first encounter in six years.

The discussion focused mainly on trade relations between the two countries.

President Trump said he was pleased to meet his Chinese counterpart again and expressed optimism about reaching a new trade agreement. He noted that the United States and China had already agreed on many points and expected further progress during the talks.

President Xi emphasized that China and the United States should remain friends and address mutual concerns through open dialogue. He stated that both sides’ trade teams had reached consensus on key issues and called for a favorable environment for mutual development.

Xi also praised Trump’s role in the recent Gaza ceasefire and said China continued to promote peace talks to resolve global disputes. He added that differences between the two nations were normal and that China was ready to work with the U.S. to strengthen their relationship.

Before the talks, the two leaders shook hands, posed for photographs, and briefly spoke to the press. President Trump told reporters he believed the meeting would be successful, though he described Xi as a “tough negotiator.”

The meeting is seen as a potential step toward rebuilding stable economic ties and easing long-standing tensions between the world’s two largest economies.
