MUZAFFARABAD: The Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly has been scheduled to meet on Monday for a vote on the no-confidence motion filed by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) against Prime Minister Anwarul Haq.
The PPP says it has secured the backing of more than 35 legislators and has formally put forward Faisal Rathore as its candidate for the office of prime minister.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), however, has announced that it will boycott the in-house change. PTI President Abdul Qayyum Niazi criticized the process, questioning how the PPP could justify forming a government with, as he alleged, “14 defecting members,” and arguing that such a move raises concerns about the party’s commitment to democratic norms.
In the meantime, Sardar Hassan Ibrahim of the Jammu Kashmir Peoples Party has declared that he will remain neutral during the voting session, choosing not to support either side.
According to political sources, Prime Minister Anwarul Haq is fully prepared to confront the no-confidence motion and respond to opposition challenges directly on the assembly floor.
In a separate development, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari met Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, PPP’s nominee for the top office in Azad Kashmir, at Zardari House in Islamabad. Bilawal emphasized that serving and resolving the issues faced by the people of Azad Kashmir must remain Rathore’s foremost responsibility.
He further encouraged Rathore to expand his outreach efforts so that he stays closely informed about the public’s concerns and priorities.
