AJK Govt Files Reference in Supreme Court Over Refugee Seats

MUZAFFARABAD: The government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has filed a reference in the Supreme Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir seeking constitutional and legal guidance on the issue of 12 reserved refugee seats.

According to a spokesperson for the AJK Prime Minister, the reference has been submitted to obtain clarity on constitutional ambiguities and administrative challenges related to these seats.

The government emphasized that resolving the matter in accordance with the law and constitution is essential.

Spokesperson Shaukat Javed Mir stated that the purpose of the reference is to avoid legal complications and ensure a clear direction for future governance and electoral processes. He added that the court’s opinion will provide crucial guidance for upcoming elections.

Following the filing of the reference, attention is now focused on the Supreme Court’s proceedings, as its decision could have significant implications for AJK’s political and parliamentary landscape.

Officials also stressed the importance of safeguarding democratic continuity and ensuring fair representation through a transparent legal interpretation of the issue.
