MUZAFFARABAD: Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) remained under complete lockdown for the fourth consecutive day on the call of the Awami Action Committee, as protests against economic and administrative grievances intensified across the region.

Shops, offices, educational institutions, and public transport have been shut, paralyzing daily life throughout AJK. The ongoing strike has brought routine activities to a halt, with tensions rising amid violent confrontations between protesters and law enforcement.

In Muzaffarabad, three people lost their lives during clashes with police. A day earlier, near Dhirkot, three police personnel were killed in a gunfire exchange, while more than 20 others were injured. The unrest has led to widespread fear and uncertainty among residents.

Funeral prayers for two of the slain protesters were held yesterday at the University College Ground in Muzaffarabad, drawing thousands of mourners.

Meanwhile, a delegation of federal ministers arrived in Muzaffarabad for negotiations with the Awami Action Committee. The talks, initiated on the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, aimed to de-escalate tensions and find a peaceful resolution. Sources close to the dialogue said discussions focused on the next steps and possible government concessions to address the protesters’ demands.
