RAWALPINDI: PTI leader Aleema Khan on Monday questioned the fairness of the Toshakhana case verdict, alleging selective accountability and inconsistent application of the law.
She noted that while PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi were sentenced to 17 years in prison, no action was taken against Maryam Nawaz over a vehicle she allegedly obtained from the Toshakhana, calling it a mockery of the law.
Speaking outside the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi with her lawyer Faisal Malik, Aleema Khan said the Toshakhana case against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi was baseless. She claimed the charges focused on undervaluation of a necklace, yet resulted in severe prison sentences.
She alleged she was accused of conveying Imran Khan’s message during a peaceful protest last year and that police officials were presented as witnesses against her. She argued that false witnesses should also be held accountable and claimed justice in Pakistan had effectively ceased despite some honest judges.
Aleema Khan said Imran Khan has consistently advocated for the rule of law, yet judges supporting it face pressure. She noted Imran Khan had been imprisoned for over two and a half years, had repeatedly expressed willingness to face his cases, and refused offers to leave the country.
She criticized judges issuing unjust verdicts who later travel abroad and accused the ATC judge of acting under a predetermined plan.
