WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Rizwan Saeed Sheikh in a series of interactions with American media outlets praised the United States, particularly President Donald Trump, for playing a significant role in facilitating a ceasefire between Pakistan and India.

The ambassador described Trump as a “proponent of peace” and welcomed the U.S. administration’s efforts to de-escalate tensions in South Asia.

Ambassador Sheikh underscored Pakistan’s appreciation for Washington’s continued involvement in seeking a resolution to the longstanding Kashmir conflict.

“We hope these efforts will persist and lead to a lasting solution in accordance with UN resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people,” he said.

Addressing water-related concerns, the ambassador criticized India’s approach to the Indus Waters Treaty, describing it as “lawless” and in violation of international norms. He warned that any move to block water flow to Pakistan, a nation of over 250 million people, would amount to a declaration of war.

“The international community will not support the inhumane act of weaponizing water,” Sheikh asserted.

Turning to broader regional concerns, the ambassador expressed deep alarm over what he called India’s increasing extremism and nationalist rhetoric.

He condemned Indian leaders’ inflammatory statements, linking them to the Hindutva ideology, and accused them of promoting hatred and tension to distract from domestic political challenges. “Using the Pakistan card to stoke nationalism is a dangerous game,” he cautioned.

Ambassador Sheikh also criticized the display of the Akhand Bharat map in the Indian Parliament, calling it a clear sign of hegemonic ambitions and “sinister intentions.”

On the matter of Balochistan, he stated that India’s involvement in the province was “no secret,” and condemned those responsible for funding and supporting terrorist activities targeting civilians, especially children. “Terrorists and their ideological patrons who stain their hands with the blood of innocent children are the worst examples of humanity,” he declared.

The ambassador’s remarks reflect Pakistan’s mounting concerns over regional stability and its call for sustained international engagement to promote peace and uphold international law.
