ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) conducted major operations across different cities and airports in Pakistan, resulting in the arrest of 11 suspects, including five women, officials said.
According to an ANF spokesperson, seven separate operations led to the recovery of 42.77 kilograms of hashish, valued at over 10.4 million rupees.
The operations targeted airports and cargo sheds, where attempts to smuggle drugs through various methods were successfully foiled.
At Jinnah International Airport Karachi, 650 grams of ice (methamphetamine) were recovered from a parcel bound for Saudi Arabia, concealed in an absorbent sheet inside cargo.
At Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore, authorities seized a total of 19.66 kilograms of ice from passengers’ luggage, while another operation led to the recovery of 11.502 kilograms of ice. Officials also intercepted attempts to smuggle drugs inside the human body in capsule form, including heroin- and ice-filled capsules.
At Multan Airport, 558 grams of heroin were recovered from the stomach of a passenger traveling to Dubai, while at Sialkot cargo shed, 1.2 kilograms of hashish hidden inside a speaker were seized.
The ANF stated that all operations were carried out under the Control of Narcotic Substances Act, 1997, and investigations are ongoing to identify other members of the smuggling network.
Authorities added that monitoring of international routes used for drug trafficking has been further intensified.
