KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has announced nationwide protests on August 7 against the petroleum levy and taxes imposed on fuel.
Speaking to reporters in Karachi, JI chief Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman said the party rejected what he described as an unfair levy on petrol and urged young people to join the demonstrations by parking their motorcycles on roads as a form of peaceful protest.
He said Karachi JI chief Monem Zafar would unveil the city’s protest plan, adding that demonstrators should remain peaceful and resolute while recording their protest.
Hafiz Naeem also criticized the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), accusing the two parties of engaging in “political theatrics” despite being coalition partners.
