Omar Sheikh was posted as CCPO Lahore on September 8, 2019. The PML-N had strongly reacted to his appointment, but the federal and provincial governments strongly defended him, saying that Omar Sheikh was an excellent police officer and that his appointment was a crackdown on criminal elements and mafias in the city.
Now that Omar Sheikh has been removed, it is being said that Punjab Chief Minister Usman Bazdar has replaced him for not controlling crime in the city. Omar Sheikh has been CCPO Lahore for only 3 months and 22 days. In a recent interview, Omar Sheikh said that he had changed all the SHOs in Lahore and arrested advertisers, including members of several occupation groups. He said that many leaders of the mafia have fled abroad out of fear.
It may be recalled that on the appointment of Omar Sheikh as CCPO Lahore, IG Punjab Shoaib Dastgir was removed from his post. Shoaib Dastgir refused to work with Omar Sheikh.
