Anwar Voted Out, Rathore Becomes New AJK Prime Minister

MUZAFFARABAD: Azad Jammu and Kashmir  Legislative Assembly on Monday voted out Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq through a no-confidence motion, clearing the way for Raja Faisal Mumtaz Rathore to be elected as the new head of government.

The asssembly session, presided over by Speaker Chaudhry Latif Akbar, saw the no-confidence resolution tabled by Sardar Javed Ayub, Chaudhry Qasim Majeed, and other supporting lawmakers. The motion not only called for Anwar-ul-Haq’s removal but also proposed Faisal Mumtaz Rathore as the replacement candidate for the position of Prime Minister.

Rathore received 36 votes in favour, while 2 votes were cast against him, firmly securing his election and marking a decisive change in the political landscape of the region.

Prior to the voting process, outgoing Prime Minister Anwar ulHaq addressed the Assembly, questioning how he alone could be held responsible for what he described as constitutional and administrative disruptions. He argued that his cabinet members were equally accountable for the situation being attributed solely to him.

The oath-taking ceremony for the new Prime Minister is expected to take place on Tuesday. Due to health-related concerns, AJK President Barrister Sultan Mahmood will not administer the oath; instead, the responsibility will fall to Speaker Chaudhry Latif Akbar.
