ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Wednesday warned that any individual or political party facilitating the outlawed Pashtoon Tahafuz Movement will face action against the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997.
Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, he said that the government had banned the PTM for its anti-state activities.
He said that after imposing a ban, certain restrictions are imposed on the party. Following the ban, 54 people have been included in the Schedule IV of the Anti-Terrorism Act in the province of Khyber Pakthunkhwa, the minister added.
He said on the one hand the PTI was running a campaign against state institutions and on the other it was claiming that its struggle was for political rights. He said that the government had evidence about the PTM’s activities that were against the interests of the state.
Jirgas of elders was a held routinely in most parts of the country but a parallel judicial system cannot be allowed, the minister said in reference to the PTM’s plan to hold a jirga before being banned.
In reply to a question, the minister said that all security arrangements had been put in place for the SCO summit in Islamabad from Oct 15 to 16.
