APC rejects local govt elections in occupied Kashmir

Resolution says no election can be a substitute for right to self-determination under UNSC resolutions

MIRPUR: Political leaders and representatives at an all-party conference here the other day stated that no election could be a substitute for right to self-determination for the people of Indian occupied Kashmir.

At the APC called by Jamaat Islami here, the participants through a unanimous resolution rejected the recent sham local government elections in the Indian occupied Kashmir and termed it a conspiracy to divert the world attention from the human rights violations in the disputed territory.

”The so-called elections held under the supervision of a million troops cannot be a substitute to Kashmiris’ right of self-determination of Kashmiris”, the resolution said.

The resolution called upon the international community to force the Indian government to implement the United Nations Security Council resolutions that promised a plebescite to allow the people of occupied Kashmir to determine their political future.

The participants of the gathering expressed solidarity with the people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir and also paid tribute to the All Parties Hurriyat Conference and the Kashmiri youth for their courage to stand for the right of self-determination.

Speaking on the occasion, the representatives of different political parties also condemned the Israeli aggression in Palestine and called on the United Nations and especially the OIC to play their effective role to stop the genocide of the Palestinians.
