Warrants issued for arrest of DC Islamabad in contempt case

IHC judge orders police of all provinces and Islamabad to trace and produce him in court on Feb 21.

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court on Tuesday issued warrants for the arrest of Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon in a contempt of court case.

Justice Babar Sattar of the IHC directed the inspectors general of Islamabad and all the provinces to trace Memon and produce him in court after his arrest in February 21 (Wednesday). The court also ordered the arrest of SSP operations Islamabad Malik Jamil Zafar.

The DC was earlier stopped from arresting anyone under the Maintenance of Public Order ordinance after he was found misusing the law when PTI leader Shehriyar Arfridi was held under the MPO. He was later issued contempt of court notice but the DC didn’t appear in court.

Today when Justice Sattar took up the case, the DC was absent again. Hos lawyer’s plea for exempting the DC from personal appearance was dismissed.

His counsel Advocate Raja Rizwan Abbasi told the court that Memon was at his hometown of Khairpur as his mother was sick. But the court issued the arrest warrants and put off the hearing.
