National Security Committee deplores Israel's military action while Iran-US constructive talks were ongoing.
The National Security Committee held a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and called the US attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities a violation of international law and the United Nations Charter.
The meeting of the National Security Committee was attended by federal ministers and military leadership. According to a statement, the meeting discussed the situation arising from the US attack on Iran and the impact of the Israel-Iran war on the region. Sources said important decisions regarding the situation in the region were taken at the meeting.
According to a statement by the National Security Committee, the meeting reviewed the regional situation arising from Israeli aggression against Iran and the committee strongly condemned Israel’s acts of aggression.
The committee deplored Israel’s military action while Iran-US constructive talks were ongoing and said that Israel’s aggressive actions increased tensions and the risk of a wider conflict.
The National Security Committee reaffirmed Iran’s right to self-defense under the UN Charter. It expressed concern over further escalation of tensions after the US attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities in Fardow, Natanz and Isfahan, and stated that the attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities are in violation of the resolutions of the AEIA. The attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities are contrary to international law and the UN Charter. The committee reiterated Pakistan’s position in its meeting.
It conveyed its condolences to the government and people of Iran on the loss of lives and reiterated Pakistan’s close contacts with the concerned parties. The committee reaffirmed its willingness to continue its efforts to promote regional peace and stability and urged all parties concerned to resolve the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy.
The committee also stressed the need for observance of international human rights and international law.
