ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has reaffirmed that the government’s top priority is to control inflation and provide relief to low-income households.
He emphasized that “artificial price hikes will not be tolerated.”
According to the Finance Ministry, the minister chaired a meeting in Islamabad today to review the potential impact of recent floods on inflation. The steering committee examined the prices of essential food items.
Briefings during the meeting revealed that the country has sufficient wheat stocks, while rice and sugarcane crops have suffered only minor damage.
Aurangzeb stressed that timely measures must be taken to ensure relief for vulnerable families and directed that preparations for the upcoming sowing season be expedited. He instructed relevant departments to ensure the availability of seeds and agricultural inputs without delay.
The minister also ordered the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), SUPARCO, and the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) to conduct immediate assessments. The committee will reconvene next week.
