Australian envoy discusses rehabilitation process with CM

Azam khan says KP govt wants to have foreign investment in health, education, industries and agriculture sectors.

PESHAWAR: Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan Neil Hawkins met caretaker Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Azam Khan at Chief Minister’s House in Peshawar on Thursday.

Both discussed in details matters related to strengthening bilateral cooperation in the future. Matters regarding investment opportunities in various sectors especially rehabilitation of infrastructure in flood affected areas, technical support for development of mineral sector, strengthening energy sector, boosting tourism particularly religious tourism also came under discussion.

Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Amjad Ali Khan, Secretary for Planning and Development Khayam Hassan Khan and other relevant authorities were also present on the occasion.

The caretaker Chief Minister welcomed the high commissioner to Peshawar and appreciated his interest to further strengthen the mutual cooperation between Australian and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governments.

He said the provincial government wanted to have foreign investment in various potential sectors of the province including health, education, industries and agriculture.

“Provincial government would extend every possible support to local and foreign investors for this purpose” he said and added that the government wanted to tap the massive investment opportunities available in the different sectors making these resources the baseline for expeditious development of our people. 

Khan said Pakistan and Australia enjoyed cordial relations and the provincial government not only valued Australia’s cooperation in various sectors but also committed to further strengthening the cooperation.

The Australian high commissioner expressed hope that the meeting will help further improve bilateral relations in the coming times.
