Babar Azam removed as captain of national cricket team

PCB names Shan Masood as Test captain and Shaheen Shah Afridi T20 side skipper.

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board has offered captain of the national cricket team to retain the captaincy of the team only in Test matches.

The decision was made by the board following the dismal performance and exit of the team from the World Cup being held in India.

Soon afterwards, Babar Azam announced that he was resigning from the captaincy of all formats of the national team.

Meanwhile, the PCB said that Shan Masood had been appointed Test captain and Shaheen Shah Afridi as the T20 side captain.

Sources said that PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf met Babar Azam at Lahore airport upon the latter’s return from India and informed him about the decision to drop him from the captaincy of ODI and T20.

However, it is yet to decided by the PCB who will be the captain of the team in ODI and T20 matches.

The national team first landed at Dubai from India from where the players took of flights to their respective cities.

Crowds of people tried to encircle Babar Azam outside Lahore airport but he left the airport without talking to anyone.
