Ban imposed on meeting with prisoners at Adiala jail

Restrictions clamped by Punjab govt and will remain in force till Oct 18, say officials.

RAWALPINDI: The government of Punjab has imposed a ban on visitors to the Adiala jail in Rawalpindi.

Officials in the provincial government told media on Monday that the ban would remain in force till October 18th. They said that the ban was imposed on visitors to all prisoners in the jail, including PTI founder Imran Khan.

The decision to ban the visitors to the jail has been taken as part of the security measures taken for the forthcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s summit in Islamabad from October 15 to 16.

The officials said that under the decision no relatives or lawyers would be allowed to meet the PTI founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The federal government has already called in the army to provide security in Islamabad. The army has been called in under article 245 of the constitution of Pakistan to help the district administration in ensuring security for the summit.
