Ban on PIA flights to Europe lifted: minister
ISLAMABAD: The European Commission and the European Air Safety Agency have lifted the ban on PIA flights to Europe, said Minister for Defense and Aviation Khawaja Muhammad on Friday.
The minister said that the ban was lifted after the PIA removed all concerns and brought the safety standard at par with international standards. He said it was a historic day for Pakistan and the achievement was because of the untiring efforts made by the aviation department of Pakistan.
The European Air Safety Agency had imposed the ban on PIA flights to Europe in June 2020 after the then aviation minister claimed on the floor of National Assembly many Pakistani pilots had fake licenses.
The minister in post on the social media platform of X stated, “It is momentous day to announce that European Commission and EASA has lifted the suspension on PIA flights to Europe.”
The minister said that a third-country operator’s authorization was also issued to private Pakistani airliners, Airblue.
