At least 23 people were reported dead in Bangladesh after students launched a civil disobedience movement against the government for not accepting their demands mostly related to the job quota system.

The students had a few weeks back started protests against the quota system in government jobs. The violent protests had left hundreds of people dead in clashes with supporters of Prime Minister Hasina Wajid in major cities of the country.

Later, the Supreme Court of Bangladesh scrapped some percentage of the quote in government employment.

The students however have again launched their protest move demanding the resignation of the prime minister.

According to media reports, the students during their protests clashed with police in different cities in which at least 23 people were killed and hundreds of others injured.

The government announced that curfew would be clamped after 6pm. Moreover, internet service has also been suspended in major cities and towns.

The students had launched their protest against  the 30 percent quota fixed in government jobs for children of those who took part in the 1971 war.

The students were of the view that all government jobs, except some percentage allocated for persons with disabilities, should be given on merit.
