Bid foiled to smuggle arms from Afghanistan

PESHAWAR: An attempt to smuggle a huge cache of arms and ammunition from Afghanistan to Pakistan was foiled by the security forces at the Pak-Afghan border.

The security forces seized a truck that was laden with the arms and ammunition at the Ghulam Khan border terminal and seized the large consignment of foreign arms, security sources said.

According to the security officials, foreign-made weapons and magazines were recovered from the truck. The foreign weapons recovered included 26 M16 rifles, 292 magazines of M4 rifles, more than 10,000 bullets. Moreover, Kalashnikov’s 9 magazines and 244 bullets were also among the seized weapons, besides 744 rounds of light machine guns.

The recovered weapons were hidden in a secret cavities of the truck. They added that the packing for the weapons in the truck took place in Afghanistan. These weapons and ammunition were destined to be used in terrorism in Pakistan.

Pakistan’s security forces have been killing terrorists coming from Afghanistan and accused the Taliban regime in Kabul of sheltering them, allowing to carry out terrorist attacks in Pakistan.
