NEW YORK: Former Foreign Minister and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari met France’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Jérôme Bonnafont at the UN Headquarters.
Bilawal led the Pakistani delegation, and several officials were present during the meeting.
The two sides discussed recent tensions between Pakistan and India. Bilawal strongly criticized India’s recent actions, including military attacks on Pakistani civilians and infrastructure, and the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty. He called these moves serious violations of international law.
Bilawal also objected to India blaming Pakistan for the recent Pahalgam attack without proper investigation or evidence. He said such accusations are irresponsible and could lead to dangerous consequences.
He emphasized that Pakistan has suffered greatly from terrorism and remains fully committed to fighting it. He warned against using terrorism for political purposes, saying it could further threaten peace in the region.
Bilawal urged France, an important member of the UN Security Council, to play a role in restoring the Indus Waters Treaty, and supporting dialogue between Pakistan and India. He said lasting peace in South Asia requires respect for international law and a peaceful resolution of key issues, especially Kashmir.
At the end of the meeting, the French ambassador reaffirmed France’s support for peace, stability, and dialogue in the region.
