KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has rejected most clauses of the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment, except for Article 243, which relates to the command and functions of the Armed Forces.
A meeting of the PPP Central Executive Committee (CEC) was held at Bilawal House, Karachi, with senior party leaders including President Asif Ali Zardari, Yousaf Raza Gillani, Murad Ali Shah, Qamar Zaman Kaira, and Raza Rabbani in attendance. The committee discussed the government’s proposed amendment but failed to reach a final decision.
Talking to the media after the session, Bilawal said that the PPP firmly rejects any clause that undermines the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award or reduces the provinces’ share in resources.
“We will not accept the removal of the NFC protection clause under any circumstances,” he stated. Apart from Article 243, all other points of the 27th Amendment have been rejected.”
The CEC meeting has been reconvened for Friday afternoon to finalize the party’s stance on the establishment of the Constitutional Court proposed in the amendment.
