Bill tabled in National Assembly to digitize records of citizens
ISLAMABAD: A bill was on Monday tabled in the National Assembly for legislation to digitize the records of citizens and establish a complete database.
The Digital Nation Pakistan Bill 2024 was introduced in the lower house of parliament by minister of state for Information Technology Shiza Ftima Khawaja during a session. The bill was later referred by the chair to the committee concerned for vetting.
According to the bill, it aims at improving governance with the help of digital technology with the aim of ensuring economic development and social well-being.
Under the bill, the government plans to establish a national digital commission and Pakistan digital authority. Under the draft law, information would be collected about an individual’s health, assets and all other social indicators. The bill’s objective is to improve access to departments managing identity cards, land records, birth certificates and health records. The plan would also target government departments which will be given goal-oriented plans to improve services.
