BLACK DAY AGAINST INDIAN OCCUPATION OF KASHMIR

International community, especially UN, urged to fulfill their promise of ensuring Kashmiris' right to self-determination.

MUZAFFARABAD: People of Jammu and Kashmir are observing October 27th as Black Day against the Indian occupation of their homeland on this day in 1947.

The Black Day is being observed in Indian occupied Kashmir as well as Azad Kashmir, across Pakistan and other countries. People will participate in walks, rallies, protest demonstrations and seminars and other programs against the occupation of Kashmir and continuous oppression on the people by Indian forces.

Moreover, the international community, especially the United Nations, would be reminded of its obligation to ensure the right to self-determination of the people of Kashmir promised through UN Security Council resolutions.

In their separate messages on the Black Day, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s resolve to continue moral and diplomatic support to the people of Kashmiris till they get their right to self-determination.

Meanwhile, in a statement, All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) said that people should observe the day and send a message to the BJP-led Hindutva government of India and the international community that they reject the Indian military presence in their homeland and will continue their struggle for freedom.

The APHC and other political leaders of Kashmir characterized India’s invasion of Jammu and Kashmir on October 27, 1947, as a blatant act of aggression devoid of legal or moral justification, an attack on the political and democratic rights of Kashmiris. They emphasized that this invasion violated international law and usurped the fundamental rights of the people of Kashmir.

Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front urged Kashmiris to observe October 27 as Black Day. “Kashmiris are facing Indian oppression like an iron wall but they will never compromise on their right to resist,” he declared.

In Islamabad, Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said October 27th served as a day to highlight India’s forcible occupation of Kashmir and the atrocities committed against the Kashmiri people.

Ayaz Sadiq said the right to self-determination is a fundamental right of the Kashmiri people, who have made immense sacrifices in pursuit of this cause. He added that India has employed every possible means of oppression and brutality to suppress this right, but has failed and will continue to fail.

Referring to India’s constitutional amendments and the sham elections held in Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), the speaker emphasized that the Kashmiri people have categorically rejected these moves.

Minister for Kashmir Affairs Amir Muqam while speaking at a press conference called upon the UN to ensure implementation of its resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir dispute. He said the UN Security Council resolutions were passed in favour of the oppressed people of Jammu and Kashmir.

He said Pakistan had always been a staunch advocate of this indigenous right of Kashmiris living in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and has always supported them in this just struggle.
