CAIRO: A prosecutor of International Criminal Court (ICC) on Sunday warned Israel to make “discernible efforts” to ensure civilians in Gaza get basic food and medicine.
In a video statement posted earlier on X, Karim Khan said curtailment of those rights could give rise to “criminal responsibility” under the Rome Statute.
“There should not be any impediment to humanitarian relief supplies going to children, to women and men, civilians,” Khan said in a video from the Rafah border crossing.
“They are innocent, they have rights under international humanitarian law,” Khan added. “These rights are part of the Geneva Conventions, and they give rise to even criminal responsibility when these rights are curtailed under the Rome Statute.”
Since October 7 when Hamas made a daredevil multi-pronged attacks on Israeli towns from Gaza, the Zionist state has been bombings civilian population of Gaza and blocked the enclave. Of later, it also gas launched a ground assault.
According to an estimate, over 8,000 people have died in the Israeli bombings in Gaza so far.
The UN and human rights organizations gave expressed the fear that the besieged people of Gaza could face a humanitarian crisis as they have run out of supplies.
The only crossing inyo the area from Rafah has been unable to cope with the demand for food and healthcare supplies.
