RAWALPINDI: Authorities here on Monday completed the exhumation and post-mortem of a woman allegedly killed in the name of honor on the orders of a local jirga in Rawalpindi.

The exhumation took place under court orders, with Area Magistrate Qamar Abbas Tarar supervising the process. Police brought the arrested suspects to the cemetery, where they identified the victim’s grave. Forensic experts collected samples from the body to determine the exact cause of death.

Dr. Misbah led the medical team during the exhumation, while a team from the Punjab Forensic Science Agency was also present at the scene. Officials confirmed that the collected samples would be sent for forensic testing.

According to police, the jirga head, Ismatullah, ordered the killing. Authorities have arrested him. Shockingly, Ismatullah also led the funeral prayers of the woman after the murder.

The victim’s second husband, Usman, surrendered to police voluntarily. He told investigators that he married the woman on July 12 in Muzaffarabad, and she had appeared before a judicial magistrate to confirm the marriage was of her own free will. She also stated that her first husband had verbally divorced her.

Usman’s father revealed that four days after the marriage, armed men threatened the family and insisted they return the woman, claiming they would formally take her back. They then forcibly took her away, and the family later learned that she had been killed.
