ISLAMABAD: The British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott has expressed deep sorrow over the large-scale loss of lives caused by the recent devastating floods in Pakistan.
In a statement shared on the social media platform X, she said that she and her team stand with Pakistan during this difficult time and extend heartfelt condolences to the affected families.
She also acknowledged the tragic loss of personnel from government helicopters involved in relief operations, highlighting the dangers faced by those assisting in the disaster response.
In the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, flash floods triggered by heavy monsoon rains have resulted in significant casualties. As of August 15, 2025, the National Disaster Management Authority reported that at least 194 people have died due to the floods, with the majority of fatalities occurring in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The worst-hit district was Buner, where 157 individuals lost their lives in a single day as entire homes and villages were swept away.
Additionally, a helicopter engaged in a rescue operation in the affected region crashed due to poor weather conditions, resulting in the deaths of all five crew members on board .
